Bingata Dyeing Experience
Experience the gorgeous bingata dyeing technique passed down for 500 years since the Ryukyu Kingdom era and create your own original masterpiece.
Bingata is a traditional Okinawan stencil dyeing technique that has continued for approximately 500 years since the Ryukyu Kingdom era, characterized by vivid colors and bold patterns. Bingata workshops are scattered primarily around the Shuri district of Naha, where visitors can experience the actual dyeing process under the guidance of skilled artisans. The immersive process of applying pigment over stencil paper creates finished works that can be taken home as bags, T-shirts, coasters, and other items. It is a luxurious cultural experience of creating one-of-a-kind bingata works while experiencing the aesthetic sensibility of Ryukyu culture.
