Motonosumi Shrine
A spectacular power spot with 123 vermillion torii gates lining the cliffs overlooking the Japan Sea.
Motonosumi Shrine stands on cliffs overlooking the Japan Sea in Nagato City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. Its magnificent landscape of 123 vermillion torii gates spanning approximately 100 meters and lining toward the sea has garnered attention. It was also selected in CNN's '31 Most Beautiful Places in Japan,' attracting many domestic and international tourists. The unique way of worship—throwing coins into a coin box installed at the top of the main torii gate—has also become a point of interest. Below the cliffs, the tidal spray phenomenon where waves blow up through rock crevices offers an impressive natural spectacle.
