Katsuura Morning Market
One of Japan's three major morning markets with over 400 years of history. Fresh seafood and local vegetables line the streets in the bustling early morning atmosphere.
Katsuura Morning Market is one of Japan's three major morning markets, believed to have started during the Tensho period (1573-1592). It is held on Shimohonmachi Street from the 1st to 15th of each month, and on Nakahonmachi Street from the 16th to the end of the month. From 6 AM, local farmers and fishermen display fresh vegetables, fruits, and seafood, creating a lively atmosphere of buying and selling. There are also shops serving the local specialty Katsuura Tantanmen nearby, making it recommended to enjoy a hot bowl after exploring the morning market. The warm interactions with local people are also part of its charm.
