Kasama Ware Pottery Experience
Experience authentic pottery in Kasama, the largest pottery village in the Kanto region. Create your own unique vessels using hand-forming and wheel techniques.
Kasama ware is a representative pottery of the Kanto region that has continued since the mid-Edo period. In Kasama city, where approximately 300 ceramic artists are active, there are many kilns and pottery schools offering hands-on experiences. In the hand-forming course, you can knead clay and create freely-shaped vessels. In the electric wheel course, you can experience authentic pottery-making under professional instruction. Your completed works will be kiln-fired and delivered to your home. Every year during Golden Week in May, the 'Pottery Flame Festival (Himatsuri)' is held, a large-scale pottery market with over 200 tents.
