Kamakura Houkoku-ji: Bamboo Garden and Matcha
A fantastical bamboo grove created by approximately 2,000 Moso bamboo trees. Sipping matcha while gazing at the bamboo garden is a moment of bliss.
A Zen temple with the status of Kamakura Gozan (the Five Mountains of Kamakura), known and loved as the 'Bamboo Temple.' The garden of approximately 2,000 Moso bamboo trees spreading behind the main hall is a fantastical space where dappled sunlight filters through. At the Kyūkōan rest pavilion built within the bamboo grove, you can enjoy matcha and dry sweets while admiring this beautiful scenery. In the silence where you forget the hustle and bustle of daily life, you can experience the beauty of Japanese wabi-sabi. Awarded three stars in the Michelin Green Guide. Visiting early morning is recommended, as there are fewer people. An ideal spot for photography as well.
