Shimokawa Town Forest Life Experience
Experience living with the forest in Shimokawa Town, an SDGs Future City.
Shimokawa Town was selected by the Cabinet Office as an SDGs Future City and is noted for city-building that coexists with forests. Though it is a small town with a population of about 3,200, it practices a circular lifestyle utilizing forest resources. In the relocation experience program, you can experience forest living through activities such as forest walks, mushroom cultivation, and woodworking. You can also learn about sustainable living systems through heating powered by biomass energy and tours of chip boilers. While winters are harsh, reaching as low as minus 30 degrees Celsius, the strong bonds of the community make it a warm town.
