Aizu Domain School Nisshinkam
A restored domain school of the Aizu Clan where the Byakkotai (White Tiger Corps) studied. Experience the bushido spirit and Aizu history while learning.
Nisshinkam in Aizu-Wakamatsu City is a faithful reconstruction of an educational institution founded in 1803 by the Aizu Domain. It has a rich history as the place where many Aizu domain samurai, including the Byakkotai (White Tiger Corps), studied. The facility features comprehensive bushido education of Aizu—represented by the 'Shoji no Okite' code of conduct—along with hands-on experience programs in archery and tea ceremony. The scale of this state-of-the-art educational facility of its time, complete with an observatory and swimming pool, is remarkable. The popular akabeko (traditional red cow doll) painting experience makes this a place where you can deeply explore Aizu's history and culture.
