Hakata Machiya Furusato Museum is a museum that introduces Hakata's traditional culture and lifestyle. In the exhibition building, where townhouses from the Meiji and Taisho periods have been relocated and restored, you can watch live demonstrations of Hakata weaving and Hakata dolls by craftspeople up close, and participate in some hands-on experiences. The impressive display of the decorated Yamakasa floats from the Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival is spectacular, and you can feel the spirit of the Hakata people. Located just near Kushida Shrine, it's also an ideal base for exploring Hakata's history. The museum also has a shop where you can purchase Hakata traditional crafts as souvenirs.
