Bizen Ware Pottery Experience
Handcraft high-fired ceramics without glaze at a Bizen ware kiln, one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns.
Bizen ware is one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns with a history of approximately 1,000 years dating back to the late Heian period, characterized by a unique technique of high-firing without any glaze. The Imbe district in Bizen City is known as the home of Bizen ware, with kilns and pottery galleries lining the streets. At the experience workshop, you can use hand-shaping and potter's wheels to create your own unique Bizen ware pieces. While the firing process takes about 2 months, the charm of Bizen ware lies in its profound depth of character—no two pieces are the same due to their position in the kiln and how the flames reach them.
