Asahikawa Shopping Park
Japan's first permanent pedestrian mall extending from Asahikawa Station, lined with shops and cafes.
Asahikawa Shopping Park was established in 1972 as Japan's first permanent pedestrian mall, a pedestrian-only street extending approximately 1km from Asahikawa Station. Department stores, specialty shops, cafes, and restaurants line the street, making it a central shopping area in Asahikawa. In winter, snow sculptures and ice carvings are displayed on the street, and it becomes one of the venues for the Asahikawa Winter Festival. There are also shops selling local crafts and Asahikawa furniture, where you can purchase Hokkaido woodcraft as souvenirs.
