Tamagawa Hot Spring
Japan's most acidic hot spring at pH 1.2. The birthplace of rock bath therapy, where therapeutic bath visitors come from across the country.
Tamagawa Hot Spring, located at Hachimantai in Senboku City, Akita Prefecture, is a hot spring that boasts Japan's most acidic pH of 1.2. Its abundant daily output of 9,000 liters per minute is also Japan's highest from a single source. It is famous for its natural rock bath therapy, where visitors lie on a rock bed containing Hokutolite (a radioactive mineral), and therapeutic bath visitors come from across the country to pursue it as a folk remedy for cancer treatment. Due to its strong acidity, it causes a tingling sensation on the skin, and careful attention is needed to bathing methods. Therapeutic bathing in the midst of nature is ideal for resetting both body and mind.
